Sophian Hoe
Sophian Hoe is a Singaporean restaurateur, chef, and creative based in Madeira, Portugal. He is the co-founder and face of Makan Madeira, Portugal’s first Singaporean restaurant, where he brings Singapore and Southeast Asian flavours to the Atlantic, paired with the Portuguese links and stories behind each dish.
He arrived in Portugal during the pandemic and began hosting private dining and supper clubs in Lisbon before opening the restaurant. Each month featured a different theme, curating regional Southeast Asian menus shaped by his time in Australia and his love of travel. Guests learned how trade routes, migration, and shared ingredients created connections between Southeast Asia, Portugal, and Europe. That same spirit continues at Makan Madeira: A hospitality experience built on flavour, culture, and narrative.
